Perten DA 7350: In-line NIR Analysis on HALDRUP Field Test Machines

Quality measurement in field trials works best when it does not interrupt the process. The Perten DA 7350 measures continuously and in real time, directly in the material flow of the HALDRUP field testing machine, without manual sampling and without delays.

HALDRUP integrates the Perten DA 7350 as a powerful online NIR system into its test harvesters. The device simultaneously determines various quality parameters, such as moisture, protein, fat, ash, and starch, in real time and at a high measurement rate of over 20 spectra per second.

A special feature of the DA 7350: it is the only NIR system in the HALDRUP range with an integrated digital camera. This allows, in addition to NIR measurement, color measurement and visual process monitoring directly during operation.

The Perten DA 7350 is a product of Perten Instruments, a company specializing in food and agricultural analysis founded in Stockholm in 1962 and part of PerkinElmer since December 2014. The Perten brand remains well-established in the industry and will continue to be used.

  • Protection class IP67 and IP69K – resistant to dust, water jets, and cleaning processes

  • Access to one of the industry’s most comprehensive commercial NIR calibration libraries

  • Industry 4.0-compatible: web-based user interface, no additional software installation required

  • Integration via OPC UA, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, Profibus, and other industrial interfaces

All three NIR systems in the HALDRUP portfolio—ZEISS HALOS, ZEISS Corona extreme, and Perten DA 7350—are installed at the same position in the material flow. The DA 7350 stands out from the ZEISS systems due to two key features: First, it is the only system to feature an integrated digital camera for color measurement and visual process control. Second, Perten provides access to one of the industry’s largest commercial calibration libraries—with validated calibrations for raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods. For those who neither have their own calibration models nor wish to rely on preconfigured curves, the DA 7350 offers a proven, widely supported solution.

The DA 7350’s digital camera offers three additional functions: color measurement according to CIE LAB (L*, a*, b* values), automatic particle counting, and real-time process viewing. The latter allows you to view the material flow live from any connected device—even remotely. Foreign objects, discoloration, or blockages can thus be detected immediately without anyone needing to be on site.

Perten, as part of PerkinElmer, offers access to one of the industry’s most comprehensive commercial calibration libraries—with validated calibrations for grains, flours, oilseeds, animal feed, and many other crops and product groups. For specific applications where no standard calibration is available, Perten offers a professional calibration development service. Calibrations can also be transferred between instruments and managed centrally.

The DA 7350 is designed for grains, flours, granules, pellets, slurries, and pastes. In the context of field trials, the primary areas of application include cereals, legumes, oilseeds, and animal feed. The measurable parameters include moisture, protein, fat/oil, ash, starch, sugar, and fiber.

The DA 7350 meets protection classes IP67 and IP69K—making it protected against complete dust ingress as well as high-pressure cleaning. The standard operating temperature range is –10 °C to +45 °C; an extended temperature range is available upon request. The device is also ATEX and IECEx certified for use in potentially explosive dust atmospheres.

The DA 7350 supports OPC UA, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, Profibus DP, and other fieldbus systems, as well as SQL queries. The web-based Process Plus software requires no additional software installation on operator stations—access is available via any browser on the network. 128 GB of internal storage ensures seamless data recording.

The ZEISS HALOS is suitable for users who want to get started right away with preconfigured curves. The ZEISS Corona extreme is the right choice if you want to continue using your own calibration models that have been developed over the years. HALDRUP installs all three systems and advises on selecting the appropriate NIR system for your specific requirements.

  • Inline quality measurement in the material flow of HALDRUP plot combine harvesters and experimental harvesters

  • Users who want to rely on a proven, widely available calibration library without having to perform their own calibration

  • Operations with requirements for visual process control and color measurement during operation

  • Multi-site research operations with centralized calibration management

  • Agricultural corporations and service providers with diverse crops and varying quality requirements

  • Testing laboratories and research institutions requiring validated standard calibrations

FAQ – Practical Questions

Yes. Perten provides access to one of the most comprehensive commercial calibration libraries in the industry. Validated calibrations are available for common crops and parameters. For specific applications without standard calibrations, the Perten application team assists in developing custom models.

The integrated camera enables color measurement according to CIE LAB, automatic particle counting, and a real-time process view that can be accessed from any networked device. This creates an additional level of quality assurance that purely spectroscopic systems cannot provide.

The ZEISS HALOS is designed for preconfigured crops and is ready for immediate use. The ZEISS Corona extreme relies on its own, self-created calibration models. The Perten DA 7350 offers a third option: a large, proven commercial calibration library combined with professional calibration service—and, as the only system, an integrated camera for color measurement and visual process control. HALDRUP provides consultation on selecting the right system.

Yes. Calibrations can be transferred between devices and managed centrally via the PerCal Plus software. This enables group-wide comparability of measurement results—even across different locations and production lines.

The system is designed for low maintenance. The web-based Process Plus software enables remote access and remote diagnostics. HALDRUP provides support for installation, commissioning, and service.
